It's been a few months since out last update here, but we wanted to bring you all up to speed on our summer activities. We've been hard at work getting the Landmarks EP ready for production. After much work preparing the record jacket, dodging potential manufacturing issues, etc., we're happy to inform you that the pressing process is well underway at this point and the record will be out, barring some sort of catastrophe, later this fall. We don't have an exact release date yet, but stay tuned. For the most up to date information, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter. More importantly, follow Landmarks on Facebook and Twitter. These guys are making great music that you don't want to miss. If you'd like to preview the EP you can listen to it below.
If you're in Chicago, Landmarks will play The Observatory on Saturday, September 13. Click here for details.
Over the past few years Chicago has been breeding a new crop of incredibly talented bands and cultivating a thriving scene that is quietly catching the attention of fans far beyond the borders of Chicagoland. Today we're very excited to announce that Landmarks, another stand-out Chicago band, has agreed to join Walk-In Records for the vinyl release of their Self-Titled EP. Taking essentials from the psychedelic, shoegaze and dream-pop genres, Landmarks have created their own place in the often crowded indie-rock world. This EP will fit nicely with your Real Estate, Deerhunter, and War on Drugs LPs. There are a few moments when you may even hear a bit the Stone Roses in these songs. Take a listen for yourself...
Right now, plans are being made to get this EP pressed to vinyl. We'll keep you posted as to when it will be available and all the other details of the vinyl package. In the meantime, stay connected with Landmarks and Walk-In to get all the details as they become available.
As the door on 2012 prepares to slam shut, we wanted to bring you news from around the Walk-In Records universe.
It has been a great year for us. Spaces released Nothing Exists but Atoms and the Void on LP and it is nearly sold out. Needless to say we and the band are both thrilled and humbled by the response to this record. If you haven't heard Spaces yet, take a minute and do that right now. There are still a few copies of the album left which can be ordered here. At the moment, the guys in Spaces are taking some time to themselves, basking in the glow of their record's success. Well done gentlemen.
In September we announced that Jordon Salveson joined Walk-In. Since then, Jordon moved from Chicago to Nashville and has put together a band to play his songs live. The results are sounding pretty good. Check out this footage from a recent show at Exit/In in Nashville.
Jordon is also working on putting together a digital album we hope to release in the next few months as well as starting to record a new album that will be an LP release a bit later this year.
Finally, we come to Sister Crystals, the band that started it all. Sister Crystals had a busy 2012 playing shows in and around the greater Chicagoland area and recording their debut LP. The band put a lot of time and hard work into this album and it shows. I heard a rough track from the record recently and I can tell you it's going to knock you down when you hear it. It's not yet ready for the public, but soon, very soon. The Sister Crystals LP will be out in 2013, so get excited. While you wait, why not check out their EP from last year. These five songs are an excellent introduction to the band and the EP is a free download! What's not to love. Go get these songs now!
We're extremely excited about all that 2013 will bring and we're very proud of what we've accomplished in 2012. None of it is possible without the bands on the label and those of you who count yourselves among their fans. Thanks to everyone for buying our records, visiting this site, following us on social media, sending us email, talking to us about the label, talking to the bands about their music, telling your friends about our records, playing Walk-In Records on the radio, writing about us on your blog, magazine or newspaper. Whatever you did to support us this year please know we are eternally thankful. Thanks so much for an amazing 2012 and we can't wait to show you what we've got in store for 2013.
We at Walk-In Records are pleased to announce Spaces second LP, Nothing Exists but Atoms and the Void, is now available to pre-order.
The LP is pressed on 180 gram blood-red vinyl and comes housed in a sturdy jacket with some of the best cover artwork we've seen in a long time. The first pressing is a hand-numbered edition of 250 and includes a full-color insert and a hand-numbered silk-screened poster. Each copy also includes a digital download code for those of you who don't have a turntable in your car or at work.... you get the idea.
If you haven't heard Spaces yet, here's one of our favorites from the LP
Hopefully you've had a chance to check out Magic City's debut EP, Little Bits. If not, click here to go to their Bandcamp page and remedy that problem. As reported earlier, the excellent Chicago label, Feel Trip, is making this EP available on cassette and the word is they should be finished and available very soon. Downloads are great , but come on, the physical format is really what it's all about, right. We'll have some copies of the EP in our store when it becomes available and it will be available through the Feel Trip store as well.
In other Magic City news, the band will play a few Chicago shows in the coming weeks and are planning a more extensive tour for the spring. Dates will be posted as we get them.
Also, in the coming weeks, Magic City will begin recording songs for their Walk-In Records LP. More news to come, so stay tuned.
I am pleased, privileged and honored to announce that Walk-In Records has partnered with the amazing blog Knox Road. I've been writing for Knox Road for the past year and am proud to be associated with a publication of its calibre.
Partnering the label with Knox Road is a natural step considering if it hadn't been for Knox Road, Walk-In Records may never have happened. While looking through the writers mailbox at Knox Road I came across an email with a submission from Magic City. I jumped over to their bandcamp page to see what they were all about and I've been hooked ever since. That first listen turned into regular listens and a glowing review on Knox Road. I figured I would get over it after writing the review, but I couldn't get past the fact that this fabulous band didn't have a record out there anywhere.
Anyway, that's how the idea started and now, a few months later, I have the privilege of putting out Magic City's record and being partners with a group of people at Knox Road who not only put out an amazing publication but for who I have a great deal of respect. I'm looking forward to working with both Magic City and Knox Road for a long time to come. In the next day or so Knox Road will have a home here on our site, but for now please follow this link and enjoy Knox Road for yourself.
Welcome to Walk-In Records! We're just getting things started here, so there's not much to see yet. All of that will change in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I can tell you that we specialize in small run vinyl releases. We will certainly dabble in CDs, cassette, and digital releases as well, but records will always be out first love.
We're hard at work on our first release and we seriously can't wait to tell you all about. Stay tuned...
